A drive along the Georgian Bay will take you from beautiful Collingwood, ON to Wasaga Beach, ON—home of the Beach Fest.  In its eighth year, this free event will be held on June 22 and 23, 2013.  Multiple acts will take the main stage with styles ranging from Hip Hop/R & B to classic rock—you’ll have fun enjoying good music, great friends, and a beautiful beach.

A day on the sand requires special care for your feet.  Flip-flops may seem like the most logical choice for a party on the beach.  In fact, the uneven terrain of this locale makes supportive footwear even more important.  Instead, choose a well-constructed sandal that will provide protection and comfort for a long day of dancing in the sun.

At some point, you’re likely to kick off your shoes altogether.  If you’re standing on your blanket, enjoy the freedom of being barefoot. However, if you plan to walk, be aware that hot sand can easily burn the soles of the feet.  Sharp items such as broken glass can easily hide in the sand, so it’s always best to keep the feet covered.  Wearing shoes at all times is critical for people with diabetes, because any foot injury can result in serious infection.

Don’t forget the tops of the feet.  This is one of the least remembered places to apply sunblock, but you’ll be glad that you did.  Burns to this area can be very painful, especially when it’s time to wear your work shoes on Monday!  Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated in the sun, and pack a small kit with bandages and antibiotic cream to treat any minor cuts.

Summer is here—enjoy a day at the beach, but remember to take care of your feet!  If foot pain has you avoiding summer festivals altogether, help is available from Chiropodist Tony Abbott.  You can reach our office today by calling Abbott Foot & Ankle Clinic in Collingwood, ON at (705) 444-9929, or make an appointment online.
