Children’s Feet
It is essential for children to have strong, healthy feet to walk, run and play. An examination of the feet and lower legs ensures that your child is growing correctly, and if necessary, treatment may be instigated to prevent future foot and leg problems. Insoles may be used to realign the arch structure and function to help correct in-toeing and out-toeing gait problems.

Corns / Callous
Corns and callous are the result of too much pressure on the skin. The body’s natural response to increased pressure is to add more layers of skin to protect itself. As the skin thickens, it becomes painful to walk on. It is important to have the hard skin removed at this stage to prevent a breakdown of the underlying tissues. You should never attempt to cut the callous off yourself as you may damage healthy skin or cause a serious infection in your foot. Diabetic Foot Care
Diabetes is a condition that requires proper management to prevent serious problems. It is estimated that 2,000,000 Canadians are affected by Diabetes and many more are not even aware of it. Poor management of blood sugar levels can lead to diminished circulation and peripheral neuropathy (loss of feeling to the feet). Over many years, this will result in decreased healing time, ulceration and, in some cases, amputation.

If you have difficulty reaching or seeing to do your own foot care contact a qualified chiropodist to assist you.

*Regular check ups of your feet are recommended for all diabetics. See specialty products for more information.
Plantar Warts
Plantar warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which causes a hard growth that can be painful to walk on. They are often confused with corns, but characteristically have small black dots within (tiny blood vessels) and usually elicit pain if squeezed from the sides. Warts are more common in children and young adults, but may present at any age. If left untreated, warts may spread to other body parts or to family members. A variety of treatments are available for plantar warts.
