Running is a sport that almost anyone can participate in and it is one of the easiest ways to keep fit.  All you require is a good pair of running shoes and some comfortable clothing.  Chiropodist, Tony Abbott is a runner himself and knows what it means to be a runner and to take care of your feet and ankles so that you can stay on the move.

The number of people that compete in 5km, 10km, half marathon and even marathons continues to rise each year.  Running long distances puts a lot of demand on your body and unfortunately injuries do happen.  Common sites of injury include hips, knees, ankles, and most frequently, the feet.  The pressure of your feet striking the ground with the full force of your body can have damaging effects as your distance and frequency of runs increases.

Taking steps to avoid an injury is advisable, but when an injury occurs it is important not to ignore the pain.  Soreness is common when you initially start running or after a particularly long event but it should not be an everyday occurrence.  If pain is present you need to see a foot specialist.  Having a clear diagnosis and an understanding your running injury is critical in managing it.  Ignoring pain can lead to long term damage which may end you running career.
