What causes smelly shoes?

Home > FAQ > FOOT CONDITIONS > What causes smelly shoes?

Stinky smelly shoes are the result of sweat from your feet interacting with bacteria.  Your feet have 250,000 sweat glands and can secrete up to a pint of sweat each day.  The bacteria and sweat are trapped in your shoes until you take them off and release the odor.   Sanitizing your shoes in the office is required initially for best results.  This is followed by regular use of Biotext spray in your shoes 2-3 x’s each week. It is may also be necessary to treat the excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in your feet if that is also a problem.
