There is a new line-up of footwear styles, with some fun looks to check out. Try on shoes with a Cuban heel (think the Beatles), D’Orsay heels with their cut away arches, a Mary Jane with the demure arch strap, or even penny loafers–yes, they are making a comeback!
When you go shopping for new fall shoes, make your fashion statement with a pair that looks great and treats your feet right. Wearing shoes that don’t support your feet properly or heels that squish your toes and force them to the front can end up being a pain – literally – in your heel.
Pain in your heels can have many causes – from serious diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, neuropathy, or fibromyalgia, to conditions like plantar fasciitis, bone spurs, or Achilles tendonitis. Wearing the wrong shoes, or engaging in a job or sport that puts a lot of stress on your feet, aggravates any condition. You may think that sore heels will just be a part of your life, but they don’t have to be. There are things you can do at home that bring relief from heel pain.
Chiropodist Tony Abbott can show you stretching exercises that help strengthen the band of tissue under your feet to reduce soreness from plantar fasciitis. You can try using a zippered sandwich bag filled with ice cubes and water to ice the painful area for 15-20 minutes, 2 or 3 times a day. A gentle massage will increase blood flow to the area and help the muscles relax to ease the discomfort.
As always, if any of these home relief methods cause increased pain, or you notice tingling or numbness in your foot, stop and seek help from Abbott Foot & Ankle Clinic as soon as possible. We want to help you have healthy feet that are free of discomfort. Call our office in Collingwood, ON, today at 705-444-9929, and bring your heel pain to a halt.
