Sparkling lights, decorated trees and store displays are about to come out in force. The holidays are approaching quickly, which means running around from store to store to try to find the perfect gifts for friends and family. Searching for the ultimate holiday present can take some time! You ought to have a plan ready to care for your feet as you trek from store to store.
Walking for only a couple of hours can take a toll on your feet and cause you pain. With the right shoes and socks, however, you can minimize the effects of pounding your feet around the mall all day and stay pain-free. Wear shoes that are cushioned and accommodate your foot needs, like arch support or extra padding in high-pressure areas. Use thick socks made of natural materials or synthetics that wick away moisture. Also, invest in footwear that holds your heel snugly, so that your feet don’t slide around inside. A little room between the end of the shoe and your longest toe will decrease your risk of toenail injury.
If you already have comfortable walking shoes, check for wear-and-tear damage. Even footwear designed for strolls only lasts for 400-500 miles. If the soles are worn down, or the heel area has become stretched out, you should consider replacing them. Don’t underestimate the value of building up your tolerance to walking longer distances, either. Your feet handle stress better when they’ve been conditioned for it.
Invest in your feet and enjoy pain-free shopping. If you are already experiencing foot or ankle trouble, don’t just wait it out or deal with it.
