Home > FAQ > HEEL PAIN > What are the causes of bursitis?

There are a number of different bursitis causes. The condition is an overuse injury, so a variety of issues that overwork the feet can contribute to it. Typically bursitis is the result of pressure, repetitive hard impacts, friction, and shearing stress over time. This is particularly common with contact or team sports and running, since they both involve hard impacts. Poor conditioning as you practice or prepare for your activities can contribute to it as well. Even an insufficient warm-up can cause pressure and overuse that leads to an inflamed bursa.

Bursitis is just one reason you need to take steps to accommodate your feet with good stretching, great warm-ups, and appropriate footwear for your activities.
